Kelly joined the firm in 2019 as a Senior Marketing Executive and was promoted to Marketing and Communications Manager in 2021. In the below blog, she relays what a typical day at the firm looks like and why she enjoys working at Boodle Hatfield.
Describe a typical day at Boodle Hatfield
I have worked in marketing and communications for over ten years now and I can say that there is no such thing as a typical day as the role really keeps you on your toes.
My role at Boodle Hatfield sees me working with different partners and staff every day. In a day I could be working on anything from developing an event concept, creating content for a publication, writing an award submission or legal directory, shaping a strategy to grow a particular practice, providing training or recording a podcast. Everyone’s door is always open and you often get colleagues dropping in to talk through an idea or a challenge that they want to overcome.
A typical year is a little easier to describe as there are regular rotations in my calendar. There are a lot of tasks that you repeat like business planning, budgets, awards and directory submissions, but the way that you approach each one will vary dramatically year or year depending on the goals and what it is your hoping to achieve.
What do you like about working at Boodle Hatfield?
I have been given a number of opportunities during my five years at the firm that were real career highlights for me. I developed this website that you are navigating on now and this process involved everything from workshops to review where we are and where we want to be and a series of interviews with intermediaries and clients to review market perceptions, to the designing, reviewing and rewriting content to fit with our tone of voice. I have delivered a number of unique events, including one with Naked Attractions Anna Richardson – see here! And more recently, managed the firm’s 300 year anniversary campaign that has now also won an award!
I regularly feel creatively and commercially challenged and my input, opinions and ideas are always gratefully received – even when I am challenging why we are doing something and how this fits with our goals.
The firm also has a real community, family like feel. You will hear a lot of firm’s saying that ‘our people are what set us apart’ but, here, it is really apparent.
What three words would you use to describe Boodle Hatfield?
Collegiate, Committed and Creative
What advice would you give to someone starting their career?
Make the most of every opportunity that you get and be willing to put yourself outside of your comfort zone.
